So, here we are again - another week, another shiny new AI tool making headlines. This time, it’s DeepSeek. Free, open source, and packing some seriously cool features like that “Deep Think (R1)” button. It’s great for double-checking whether the AI is hallucinating or actually giving you solid answers. And yes, it’s fast too.

But before you go rushing off to download it - or worse, start debating which model is “better” - let me share something I’ve learned over my 30+ years working in education, tech and AI: the tool isn’t the point. How you use it is.
If you think about it, we’re kind of reliving the early days of search engines. Remember Lycos? HotBot? Yahoo? Everyone was hopping from one platform to the next, chasing the latest shiny object. Sound familiar? That’s exactly where we are with large language models (LLMs) right now.
Every few weeks, there’s a new contender promising to be faster, smarter, or more open-source than the last. And sure, it’s fun to experiment. But here’s the thing: this phase isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. For the foreseeable future, we’ll keep jumping around, trying out the next big thing.
